Published:  December 7, 2011

Wesley ended their hockey season on a winning note when they clinched the Dudley de Silva challenge shield for the first time by defeating Royal 1-0 in their annual hockey encounter played at the Royal grounds, Reid Avenue.

The annual encounter which began in 2007 was the fifth in the series with Royal emerging winners in the previous four occasions.

The solitary goal of the match scored in the 17th minute of the first half. Right inside, Nihad Nasoor, found the net having received a pass from centre half Imad Muzzamil.
The two teams fought tooth and nail in the second half but were unable to make any headway.

The Royalists forwards led by skipper Mohottiarachchi though making threatening moves were unable to breach the solid defense of Wesley goalie Randeeka de Silva who put in some spectacular savings.

For Wesley right extreme Thansuhan Vasanthanandan along with skipper Arun Dharmasridaran and full back Pramod Ramdos excelled along with Imad Muzzamil who was fittingly adjudged the most outstanding player receiving the R.O.D. Paul memorial trophy which was on offer
